Good morning everyone. This weekend, my daughter (an aspiring artist, at 5 years old) and I went to the Yale University Museum of Art. I will post pictures later today and detailing our adventure, but I was very surprised at how captivated Ava was with the exhibits.
Many of the pieces I photographed she actually picked out. I took a cue from one of the assignments from my digital photography class last Mod, and decided to take a look at the art through a child's eyes. It definitely made the experience more interesting, as she pointed out more details than I would have picked up on my own.
She took a special interest in the first floor display of paintings (which we were not allowed to photograph), and more particularly, with a wall full of fuzzy photographs of a clown. I was unable to find info on the photographs, which I thought were a little creepy, but she seemed entranced by them.
Next weekend, we will visit the Yale Museum for British Art, also located in New Haven, as I've promised Ava we will visit Bangkok Gardens for lunch.
On November 22nd, we will visit the Museum of Modern Art (and the M&M Store) in New York.
Pictures to follow!!

Good Nancy... I found you! I put a link to your blog in the list of Class links....
ReplyDeleteFunny how we need to have help from our children to recover a sense of childlike wonder... go with it!
I wish I had a child to take along on my outings - do 20-something year old friends count? :)
ReplyDeleteI will have to keep an eye out for the fuzzy clown photos - I am not a clown lover so that might freak me out - combining something I love (fuzzy) with something I somewhat fear...
She picked out some really interesting things!! she was REALLY intrigued by a carving out of an elephant's ivory tusk. Then, of course, she asked me how someone got an elephant's tusk. After I told her, she responded "well, that's not really nice." ha.
